MULTICULTURAL QUEENSLAND MONTH

On 30 August 2024, TMSG proudly hosted the Townsville Multicultural Queensland Month Celebration in collaboration with Aitkenvale State School, TenderCare Disability Services, Aitkenvale Community Hub and Multicultural Australia. Held at the Aitkenvale State School Hall, the event celebrated this year’s theme: “Celebrating Diversity: Different Cultures, Different Generations, and Different Abilities – One Intercultural Community.”

The event kicked off with an engaging dancing workshop by Afrekete, where attendees experienced various traditional dances. Participants also enjoyed a variety of handicraft activities.

The event included inspiring speeches such as by TMSG Board member Judith Rusoke-Dierich, who shared her journey from seeking refuge in Sweden to migrating to Australia and starting her own business, We2Care. The celebration also featured a spectacular Multicultural Fashion Parade, showcasing traditional cultural clothing from around the world.

Guests sampled a delightful array of multicultural finger food and enjoyed a series of cultural dance and music performances. A special moment of the event was the acknowledgement of Serco employer and RTO STEPS Group Australia that provide inclusive and supportive environments for diverse individuals.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us and contributed to the event’s success. A sincere thank you to the Queensland Government and all our sponsors for their generous support, making this celebration a memorable and impactful event.
